Broken ceramics were repaired with a lacquer imbued with gold, symbolically showing that something that has been broken is actually more precious and is part of their story. 24k gold has been fired into the enamel so it will shine brightly forever. This piece is just as beautiful and ornate on the back as it is on the front.
